└───────────────────────────┘
- WHAT IS NEW WITH AUTOPRNT
Speed! We have managed to squeeze out about a 20
percent performance increase by improving the
buffering algorithm. This should help those of you
using NET SatisFAXtion as a plain paper fax
solution.
- WHAT ELSE CAN BE DONE TO IMPROVE PRINTING SPEED?
Print in Standard mode instead of Fine mode. The
loss in resolution is often acceptable for faster
printing speed.
Don't print to postscript. Printing faxes to a
postscript printer is much slower than other
printing modes. If your printer supports both
postscript and PCL mode, use the PCL mode.
Dedicate a PC to AUTOPRNT. Although AUTOPRNT can
be run on the fax server, it will print much
slower than on a workstation. The faster the
computer, the faster AUTOPRNT can resize the image
for printing.
Assign multiple printers to a Novell print queue.
Attach the printer directly to the system running
AUTOPRNT.
┌───────────────────────┐
│ INSTALLING THE UPDATE │
└───────────────────────┘
INSTALLATION STEPS
- Simply copy the new AUTOPRNT.EXE file (extracted
from the 24.EXE file) over the old AUTOPRNT.EXE.
For example:
COPY C:\TEMP\AUTOPRNT.EXE C:\FAX
- Run AUTOPRNT as usual.
┌────────────────────────────┐
│ AUTOPRNT ON THE FAX SERVER │
└────────────────────────────┘
- You can run AUTOPRNT on the fax server, but it
will print very slowly. Also, the fax server must
have at least 1M byte of expanded memory for
AUTOPRNT to work. To run AUTOPRNT at the fax server,
follow these steps:
1. Use SERVESET to configure the fax server
for nondedicated mode.
2. Use SETUP to set up the user software on
the fax server. Use AUTOPRINT as the fax
user name.
3. Run FAXNODE and AUTOPRNT after the fax
server loads.
WARNING
- The extra overhead of printing could over tax a
busy fax server. This configuration is not
recommended for anything slower that a 386
system. If the performance degradation of the fax
server is unacceptable, you should run AUTOPRNT on
a separate workstation.
